The Chopin Law Firm LLC Files Lawsuit on Behalf of Jones Act Seaman

Dick Chopin

Our New Orleans personal injury attorneys at The Chopin Law Firm LLC are currently representing a Jones Act Seaman who suffers from severe anxiety and heart attack symptoms as a result of having to endure extreme racial harassment and threats from his employer. The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, names our clients’ employer, Rowan Cos. Inc., as the defendant and alleges that the employer failed to provide a safe workplace.

The lawsuit stems from several incidents, culminating in January of 2016, where our client required emergency medical treatment after experiencing
symptoms of a heart attack while on the rig. The suit alleges that our client’s medical injuries were caused by an extremely hostile work environment in which his immediate supervisor engaged in direct verbal and physical harassment, abuse, and intimidation.

Because Rowan Cos. Inc. is directly responsible for the conduct of its employees, the suit alleges that the company should be held accountable
for its failures to provide a safe working environment when it neglected its duty to properly train, monitor, and supervise employees. If not for
their negligence, we argue, our client would not have been victimized by the harassment and abuse of his supervisor.

As a result of the harassment and incident, our client suffered damages for which he should be fairly compensated. These include his medical expenses,
lost wages and benefits, and impaired earning capacity.

Our legal team intends to fight aggressively on behalf of our client as we work to clearly and convincingly illustrate the failures of his Jones
Act Employer to provide an appropriate work environment. As attorneys who draw from over 50 years of combined experience in personal injury,
maritime injury, and employment law, we have the breadth of knowledge required of this difficult case. By leveraging our insight of the law and claims of negligence, we will work to fight for the compensation our client rightfully deserves.
